Wanna ask a question regarding housing rabbits, guinea pigs and hamsters.

I have a fren who keeps all the 3 pets mentioned above all in a same pen. Is it ok? Are there any transmitted desease i should keep in mind wen putting them together? And how bout food? Is it ok if they eat each other's food? Pls advice. TQ

ya....one more thing. How do u treat rabbits, guinea pigs or hamsters that have cirit birit??
  • May 2007 Edit
To cure diarrhoe, you can buy an antibiotic called "Amoxycilin" from pharmacy. It's in powder or granule form, add some water and feed with syringe at about 1ml for small bunny and 2ml for adult bunny. This antibiotic costs about RM 5 ~ 6 per bottle. I am not really sure whether this antibiotic can be applied to guinea pigs and hamsters. You can check it out with vet.

It's recommended not to keep all pets together in a cage. It's better to separate them coz their nutrient requirement is different for different types of animals. If keeping too many pets in a cage will cause sanitation problem. Hopefully my opinion can help you.

Never give Amoxicillin (Penicillin base drugs) to your bunny, it can kill. Give a sulphur based antibiotic (eg.septra, ennofloxins, baytril, cipro septra) is much safer.

Please refer to the House Rabbit Society (link below) for all information you need to keep a happy and healthy bunny.  Happy Binky !
